Lens Testing - Nikon 18-200vr - page 2
Everyone says the 18-200vr is a good travel lens. A jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. It is really handy for travel because it is light, has an enormous focal range, has VR, is pretty flare-resistant, and can focus close. But is it sharp enough? Rather than shoot a subject at different apertures I thought I would just post a bunch of travel snapshots taken (mostly) with the 18-200vr. There are two shots of the same subject taken with other lenses that may be useful for comparison - you find them.

Most of these images have had almost no post-processing. No levels, no sharpening, no contrast added. A few had the horizon straightened, and all have been resized (and the auto-distortion option checked) in Capture NX2.and Photo Mechanic. The full-size originals do not look as sharp as the downsized versions.
