Walk through Tienanmen Square and keep going and you come to a park area just before you get to The Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is the emporer's home, along with 3000 concubines. It's a huge place surrounded by a moat. The emperial Chinese government worked from here, which partially explains the large size.
