September 25, 2017 A tiny wire shrimp on wire coral. Range about 2 feet with 105mm lens.
September 25, 2017 An extreme crop at least shows what the subject is.
March 17, 2019 A pipefish, with too much flash
March 17, 2019 Pipefish, fixed
March 17, 2019 Painted Tunicates hiding in the 'bushes'
March 17, 2019 Painted Tunicates, isolated
March 17, 2019 Sea Rod from a foot or so away.
March 17, 2019 Cropped in.
March 17, 2019 An over-exposed Artichoke Coral
March 17, 2019 Cropped, darkened and color-balanced.
March 17, 2019 This is actually a decent shot as-is, but I wanted to get rid of the distracting elements.
March 17, 2019. Cropped, and a change to color balance. As a side note, Moray Eels are not green. They are blue but excrete a yellow mucus coating that makes them look green underwater.
March 18, 2019 A little bright, and white balance is off.
March 18, 2019
March 18, 2019 Not bad, but not close enough.
March 18, 2019
March 18, 2019 I like the patterns of this Delicate Lacey coral, but too many distracting elements.
March 18, 2019 Isolated the part of interest to me and fixed white balance
March 18, 2019 Not the best angle for this Christmas Tree worm.
March 18, 2019 Crop in to see some detail rescues the shot.
March 18, 2019 Over-exposed, wrong white balance
March 18, 2019
March 18, 2019
March 18, 2019
March 18, 2019 Typical issue shooting up into the sun. The brightness of the sun overwhelms much of the detail. I have to reduce the brightness of the bright areas, but at the same time not darken the shadows any more.
March 18, 2019 Much different look when I pull the highlights down in post-processing.
March 19, 2019 Shot in ambient lighting with wide angle. Hey - underwater you shoot with the lens you brought!
March 19, 2019 White balanced and cropped in.
March 19, 2019 Subjects too far away for my flash to do much. Need to brighten this up a lot.
March 19, 2019
March 19, 2019 Not a bad shot, just want to isolate the subject more.
March 19, 2019
March 19, 2019 Too dark, but that doesn't bother me so much here because the main problem I have pulling detail out of Sea Rods is that parts of them really soak up light and go overexposed easily. Better to slightly under-expose.
March 19, 2019 Some detail found.
March 20, 2019 This Goldentail Moray Eel is actually only about an inch in diameter, but it will look more impressive cropped.
March 20, 2019 Looks bigger now!
March 20, 2019 Ah - the wire shrimp on wire coral challenge. It's always hard to get close enough, focus on the actual shrimp AND get a shot before they move off.
March 20, 2019 Not too bad on this one.
March 20, 2019 Somewhere in there is a decent composition
